The 93rd edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo is going on in its Tuscan hometown until 12 January. Five intense days in which the city comes to life with fashion shows, exclusive events, and presentations of the upcoming Fall Winter 2018/19 collections.
The entire world of men’s fashion flaunts the best street style looks and challenges the trends seen in the Fortezza da Basso pavilions. Which ones will be winners and which one’s failures? Let’s see them together.
Simply Corduroy – Win
The corduroy fabric (from the French “cour du roi”, literally means court of the king, considering that this fabric was used as hunting clothes of the sovereign’s servants), is a type of velvet characterized by raised stripes. One of the true seasonal trends highlighted here as an instinctive and impeccable classic.
Colour colour – Win
Can you take a risk with bright colours and still not lose elegance? Well, it seems so… An impactful and striking combination between the tones and the textiles.
A British touch – Win
A classic British style trench has that casual and country touch that never goes out of fashion and always wins.
Gang show off – Fail
When the Vanity takes over you must understand you could slip into a blunder. Where to start from? The right. Not so ‘’aesthetic’’ the combination of the checked pattern in different sizes for a single look, a little too much when combined with the sockless style when its 5° outside and matching the electric blue tie in silk with the flannel vest. Lesson taught? Mixing and matching is okay, but there is a great need to know how to do it well.
Sobriety, practicality, and simplicity – Win
Playing with basic nuances is simple and always brings excellent results. Exactly like it’s true in this case. A gray look that starts from the beard and extends from the coat to the single-breasted suit. We like the gloves that match the look of the ties and the pocket square.
Herringbone, over everything else – Win
Herringbone, Herringbone and some more Herringbone. The classic fantasy of the menswear has invaded the streets and the catwalks of the upcoming collections. A must have in the coat selection.
More is too much – Fail
Sometimes too much is simply too much.
Shades of Creativity – Win
A world of elegance exists outside the sartorial and ultra-formal context. This well-balanced mix of blue tones is proof of that.
Nonchalance au revoir – Fail
Right from the pose to the look and everything else, it’s clearly an underachieved nonchalance. The double accessory (Pocket Square and boutonniere), out of fashion glasses and the summer hat, all elements are clear symptoms of an improvised fashion.
Creativity for two – Fail
Appreciated the effort of creativity. But even in this case, the boundary line between excess and creativity has been overly crossed. A suggestion? Attention to the size of the gloves, here they look a bit too much.
Mission: originality – Win
Steve Zissou hat, coat with a furry interior and military overalls: there are all the conditions for a failure in terms of style. But surprisingly, the look looks balanced and is winning by spontaneous originality.
Hello, Sir – Win
The British setting, made of precision and simplicity, is never disappointing.
Tu vo fa’ l’americano – Fail
We like the idea of being able to pick some shades that were up to now reserved only for the summer wardrobe, and see if they can be worn in the winter. But in this case, something seems wrong and out of place. And not just that, paying attention to details. If you love the slim look: the knot of the tie and the length of the jacket must be always respectful to the proportions.
Italian simplicity – Win
Simplicity, even Milanese, never goes out of fashion. The detail that we liked best? The mini version of the pocket square. Practical and classy.
Tailored – Win
A suit so flawless, that it’s living proof of impeccability. Pure elegance!
American grooming – Win
A look with vintage-inspired beard and hair from overseas, well accomplished and well crafted.
