“Boom, Pitti Blooms” is the slogan of the 92nd edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, the event taking place in Florence which has just presented the cream of the crop of spring/summer 2018 menswear industrial production.
Pop colours and giant flowers have sprung up on the walls and floors of Fortezza da Basso to tell a fantasy-world story. Original patterns and contrasting colours have prevailed over SS17 formal clothing main theme, lightness, which has been interpreted, in terms of weight and shades, with unusual incredibly-masculine sophistication.
Soft and natural fabrics are cut to loosely fit your body shape. Light colours and balanced contrasts. Here is what we found out about next spring/summer menswear trends at Pitti uomo 92.
The businessman suit is back and echoes the 80’s Wall Street. Jackets are no longer slim-fit : shoulders are now designed to be soft, like the Neapolitan shoulder, which has no padding. Lapels are 13 centimetres wide and even wider, to highlight the higher part of your body.
Straight-leg trousers are designed with single or twin pleats for ease of movement. The hem of your trousers get wider and wider: gone is the slim-fitting trend.
Waistcoats are still popular, especially contrasting double-breast waistcoats. A comfortable shirt with a spread collar complete the laid-back look.
Next summer men’s clothing will include fibre blends: classic fabrics, like linen and cotton are now on the scene with blends of linen and silk and linen and cotton, and ultra-stretchy wools to combine a sports style with sartorial elegance.
Shades of blue, white, natural colours, brown and green and some shades of orange, like brick-orange or rust-orange won’t be missing: the Seventies style brings back the peace-and-love years.
The classic men’s textile patterns are reinterpreted with sober colours and subtle designs: herringbone, houndstooth, prince of Wales, checked, overcheck, striped and the varieties of the iconic solaro. As to shirts, linen with stripe macrodesigns garments are not to be missed.
